Haywards Heath offers fast train services to London Bridge and Victoria with Thamseslink, Southern and Gatwick Express services. Gatwick airport is 15 minutes away and Brighton is 20 minutes. But there is much more to this West Sussex town than its great commuting links.
Legend has it that, as a small settlement, it was named after a local highwayman named Jack Hayward. Its main development followed the arrival of the railway in 1841, and Haywards Heath has grown to become a thriving community with excellent schooling, the acclaimed Princess Royal hospital, a busy social scene and leisure activities ranging from famous-name concerts to cricket and golf clubs. The conservation area of Muster Green in also believed to be the battle ground between the Round Heads and the Cavaliers in the British Civil war.
We have a lot of beautiful outside spaces including, Victoria Park with its café, childrens play and splash area, a skatepark, tennis courts and Tori’s café. Clair Parks hosts a weekly park run and is the home of Haywards Heath Cricket Club. Beach Hurst Gardens has a miniature steam railway. The ancient Bolnore & Ashenground Woods and the Paiges Meadow nature reserve offer further green space and the glorious Blunts Wood keeps a very big open space between the town and neighbouring village of Cuckfield.
The bustling shopping centre features family retailers as well as the main stores, and the varied restaurants, cafes and bars in the Broadway add to the atmosphere. There is also a state of the art leisure centre. Just outside the town are miles of glorious countryside.
