If you’re thinking of moving to Crawley, read our guide on what you can expect from this gorgeous town.
Crawley isn't just a new town. Sure, it offers fantastic shopping, a variety of property styles and easy access to London, Gatwick, and Brighton. But this vibrant West Sussex town also offers fantastic parks, a theatre, fabulous places to eat, and beautiful surrounding villages.
Relax in Tilgate Park and beautiful Buchan Country Park, ideal for dog walks or to take the kids for some time outside. On a rainy day, you could try the Olympic-sized swimming pool at K2 Leisure Centre or catch the latest films at Cineworld. Crawley has a great shopping district, including County Mall which offers many well-known high street brands in large outlets.
The Hawth Theatre has many great shows, festivals, and workshops on throughout the year, including musical theatre, live music, and comedy. It also often has activity days in school holidays for children, as well as a popular panto every Christmas.
Crawley boasts an array of great eateries, including independent and high street restaurants, trendy bars, and traditional pubs. Hearty, seasonal food is on offer at the cosy Hillside Inn, or spice up your life with an evening of Caribbean food and cocktails at Turtle Bay on the High Street.
The town has train stations – Crawley and Three Bridges – offering great transport links to London and Brighton with regular trains taking less than an hour. It’s close to the M23 motorway and also Gatwick airport is nearby for your international travels.
Crawley has 14 neighbourhoods which all have their own character and can offer residents a little something different. The main postal districts we cover in Crawley are RH10 and RH11. If you’re looking for some inspiration for your new Crawley home, below are some of our favourite areas.
Maidenbower is the perfect place for commuters, located on the south east corner of the town and bordering the M23 motorway. Maidenbower Park provides a green open space for outside activities and includes a 3G football pitch. There’s also a community centre and a number of good schools. Maidenbower has a variety of property types to suit everyone, from one-bedroom flats to larger detached family homes.
Ifield was once a separate village but has now become part of the wider town of Crawley. Ifield has its own train station on the picturesque Arun Valley line that will take you to Horsham and London Bridge, so it’s a great area for commuters. There are five schools in the area, including Ifield Community College for secondary education. One of Ifield’s defining features is the Mill and surrounding pond, which is one of the most important wetland sites in Crawley and supports a rich bird community.
These neighbourhoods are all close to the centre and Crawley mainline station, and popular with all, especially commuters. They offer lots of amenities, like Crawley Leisure Park in West Green, and open spaces, such as a boating pond and lake in Goffs Park in South Gate. They provide a variety of houses, from Victorian properties to modern new builds.
Three Bridges is another Crawley neighbourhood that was once its own village. Now, it is a popular area of Crawley, boasting its own large train station with regular trains to London and Brighton. It’s also home to Three Bridges FC, a popular local team playing in Division One South East. There are also good schools, including Hazlewick School for secondary education. Three Bridges has all kinds of property, including one-bedroom flats and family homes.
